The Kwa Zulu Natal Deaf Association (K.Z.N.D.A.) is a deaf Society in Kwa Zulu Natal, a Province on the East cost of the Republic of South Africa, founded in 1932.

The province has a population of 8,505,383 10% of which has hearing loss in varying degrees.
1% Profoundly Deaf (85,054), 3% Extremely Hard of Hearing (255,160), 6% Hard of Hearing (510,320).

MISSION STATEMENT OF K.Z.N.D.A.

To identify and meet the developmental, emotional, cultural, recreational, and physical needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community of Kwa Zulu Natal. We will take our full part in Community life by creating an awareness of our objectives amoung the general public.

The Society plays an important role in the lives of the Deaf Community of Kwa Zulu Natal - Providing apecialized services, educational and life skills training to an increasing number of people with hearing loss. We strive to create Deaf Awareness so as to enhance the acceptance of the deaf community by the hearing community, and providing a vital link between (the deaf and hearing) these two communities.

This is done through the following programs :

LIFE SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM:

In this program the Deaf are trained as educators and given support in a range of Independent Living Skills, eg. Health, work, Democracy Education, literacy etc.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT SERVICES:

Support services are given to the Deaf and their Families needing such services for everyday life - including Sign Language Lessons and Interpreting services through the South African Sign Language Academy, which is based in Kwa Zulu Natal.

DEAF AWARENESS PROGRAMS:

This service includes a range of programs and workshops for the general public. Providing them with :All this is acheived through Expositions, Radio Talk Shows, Visits to various Community Groups eg. Schools, Clubs, Old Age homes, Women's Groups etc.

RECREATION:

A variety of recreational activities are held within the premises of the Association. Socials are held monthly, as well as other social meetings throughout the year.

CHURCH SERVICES

Various religious groups freely utilise the premises for Church Services, which are normally held every second Sunday.


Following this introduction are just three of K.Z.N.D.A.'s Developmental Projects designed by Deaf Educators to teach the Deaf Community.
